Children’s experiences, expressions and practices of citizenship and rights

Children's Rights, Children's Voice

PhD Viva Success for the Voice, Agency and Rights in Education (VARiE) research group at School of Education UCD.

Incredibly proud of VARiE member Jessica Daminelli who this week successfully defended her doctoral thesis “Children’s experiences, expressions and practices of citizenship and rights: an exploration through culture circles in Brazil and Ireland”.

Her doctoral research explores how children experience, make sense of, and practise citizenship and rights within everyday social spaces. The study is situated within ongoing debates in childhood studies and critical citizenship studies that challenge the positioning of children as “not-yet-citizens” and instead recognise them as citizens-in-the-now.

A big thank you to her amazing examiners Professor Deirdre Horgan and Dr Declan Fahie.
